What professional certifications or licenses do you have, or are hoping to pursue?
Hello everyone!
I have been working in the field for about 5 years and have a B.S. in Environmental & Ecosystems Science. I work on a 600 acre wetland restoration project for my local wastewater utility in Spokane, Washington. I am always looking to bolster my resume and knowledge base in the restoration, and larger natural resources field in the Pacific Northwest. I plan to work on these 4 certifications/courses in 2026:
- CERP/CERPIT
- Part 107 - UAV Pilot's License
- Eastern Washington Native Plant ID Course through WA Dept. of Ecology
- Washington State University Master Naturalist Certification
If there's any sort of professional development that you've done recently that you think would be beneficial to a new-ish to the field restoration practitioner, please feel free to share.
Thank you!

Hello Ian -
I took a Wetland Delineation course (https://www.uwlax.edu/gel/ppd/...), which is how I can do wetland delineation in my state. I know each state it's a different process, but that may be something to look into. I now own a business and most of what I do is delineations. I've been a WI Master Naturalist (I was kinda grandfathered in because of my position working with youth as well as my degree in Environmental Education/Interpretation). I have some others I've done in the past. While this one doesn't relate directly to restoration, I recommend everyone do a Wilderness First Aid course so that they are prepared if something were to happen in the field. I used to be Wilderness First Responder certified (I didn't need it for what I do, so didn't keep it up, as that's a time commitment) but recommend the basic at least so people think through risks and accidents they may have happen!
